Course Overview
This asynchronous course introduces K-12 educators to Colleague AI, an AI-powered educational platform designed to streamline lesson planning, assessment, grading, and in-class instruction. Educators will explore how to integrate Colleague AI into their instructional practice and earn STEM clock hours by completing a module that meets Washington State’s STEM integration requirements (school districts set up pd and clock hours for educators).
Module Structure
Module 0: Welcome & Logistics (15 min)

Module 1: Understanding AI in Education (15 min)
Objective: Educators will apply responsible AI use principles and identify key ethical considerations when implementing AI tools in K-12 classrooms.

Module 2: Prompt Writing and Customization (35 min)
Objective: Educators will construct effective prompts that generate high-quality educational content and critically evaluate AI responses for classroom appropriateness.

Module 3: Getting Started with Colleague.ai – Dashboard & Tools (30 min)
Objective: Educators will navigate the Colleague AI platform proficiently and create customized instructional materials using the platform’s features.

Module 4: Enhancing Instruction with AI Workflows (30 min)
Objective: Educators will design systematic lesson planning and grading workflows that integrate AI tools seamlessly into existing teaching practices.

Check point 2 (30 minutes for elementary level and 50 minutes for secondary level): Enhanced lesson plan + Reflection Questions: create a complete lesson plan (including instructional plan, assessment, rubrics, multimedias) using Colleague.ai and submit the URL or upload PDF
Module 5: Enhancing In-Class Instruction and Student Interaction with AI (30 min)
Objective: Educators will implement Classroom features and create AI-powered teaching tools that enhance classroom instruction and assessment.

Module 6: Final Assignment (STEM clock hours eligible) (Optional)
Objective: Educators will design interdisciplinary (STEM) lessons using Colleague AI that integrate subject specific requirements and connect AI usage to real-world instruction and learning.
- Option A (120 mins) : Activity: Design a STEM-integrated lesson using Colleague.ai
- Must integrate at least two (2) STEM domains (i.e., math + technology)
- Must connect STEM learning to career pathways (i.e., impact on student STEM experiences and career awareness)
- Options include:
- Lesson plan or unit plan
- Slides or podcast from lesson plan
- Student discussion
- Assessment including rubric
- Option B (120 mins): Non-STEM assignment (regular clock hours)
Module 7: Closing & Next Steps (15 min)
Objective: Educators will understand pathways for continued professional development in AI-augmented education.
